Surprised to see Porsche offering a finance deposit contribution on all variants of 718 Caymans (inc GTS).

Whilst only a modest £1k, I would have thought this was an unusual gesture for a current (and fairly recent) model.

No surprise to see it on a run-out Cayenne for instance, do Porsche really need a helping hand shifting Caymans at the moment?

They are selling in much lower numbers than they would like and have dropped off a cliff in North America. Apparently the traditional Porsche customer is not enamoured of the 4 pot turbo which sounds very much like a Scooby.

Very interesting. Hopefully Boxster will get a six again.

Having been a F6 Boxster owner before I found the 718 F4T engine sound very invasive and one of the reasons I did not buy one.
I had half day test drives in both a Boxster and a Cayman, IMO both drive and handle well and the engine sound at first for a short distance was ok but after about an hour I had had enough.

Had a similar problem with a Honda Integra R in 1999 I ended up buying an Accord R as it was not as stripped out and a more refined drive.

Still £1K off is good news for somebody but not me.

If the 718S Boxster was a six I'd probably have one by now.

Something to do with the 911 sales volume impact too perhaps? Be interesting to see the reviews of the 718 GT4 with a six, I can hear the journalists now 'why didn't they do this in the rest of the range?'

I’d be surprised if they didn’t go back to a F6 in the next iteration. Porsche can’t give away 718s in America and a friend of mine was recently offered a 10% discount on a 718 Cayman S here in the UK. Massive misjudgement by Porsche to go 4 pot and it sounds loud and rough too

We got a "deposit contribution" when we bought our 981 Cayman back in 2015. If I remember correctly it worked out to be about 5% off so we were very happy with that and even more so that the retained value appears to be better that we thought it would be.

We've not driven a 718 but heard them and the 2 are night and day apart. We've got PSE fitted to ours and it sound spectacular at full chat. That puts a 718 out of contention as a replacement. Toying with the idea of a new Vantage but need to drive one before we go down that road.

I believe that the 718 GT4 and the new Boxster Spyder will both have naturally aspirated engines. It is sad that the only 991.2s and 718s to benefit from naturally aspirated engines are made in modest numbers and are very difficult for 'normal' enthusiasts to buy at published retail prices.

The Cayman was always a car driven by enthusiasts so the lack of a proper engine is a problem where the Boxster is much more of a lifestyle purchase so the engine is less of an issue
