If you’re into really really good food (and can’t stretch to Boyer) stop off a bit earlier and stay at L’assiette Champenoise, route de Tinqueux, Reims.....pricey but a fantastic eating experience.
(Mind you, driving the next day can be a struggle!)

Thanks Paul, appreciate the heads up, we'll look at it. We've got a 2night stop booked at Champagne André Bergère, the place in Epernay that featured in the recent Ab Fab docu, right next to Pol Roger we visited with the Macan register last year. We like good night stops and food, I draw the line at fois gras though.

LOL. Did any Teslas appear while you were there? So far I've found the Supercharger network extremely convenient with loads of free bays, even when ICEd!

No, I didn’t see any in the 2 nights we stayed there and I was only in that space a few minutes for a photo. Now I’ve looked at the supercharger provision, it does indeed cater for long distance travel. Hybrids sell well, 60% of new Panamaras sold are hybrids. Ideally we need better range, 50+ for local drives and fuel for longer distance therefore flexibilty & less reliance on public charging points. I’ve started to watch ‘fully charged’ on youtube, lots of good info.

On the subject of Teslas.

For the last 6 months I've been running a Mini Cooper D that is on a buy back with a mate of mine who runs a garage ( it was cheaper for me this way than a short term lease / hire).

As I now have a build completion date I popped in to see him today and he showed me his Tesla 3 online account where it advises no availability until spring 2019, he placed a deposit in 2016 !!!
His wife runs a Leaf and he commented they are now getting much better , Tesla with its poor productivity is going to soon be overtaken by other manufacturers.

They will soon probably become the Betamax of car manufacturers.

Model 3 production is still in its infancy. Model S and X are now being produced at around 100,000 cars per annum and growing. It's still a relatively small market, but Tesla are dominating it. Model 3 and upcoming Model Y will sell in vast numbers over the next 5 years. Tesla's biggest issue will be churning them out fast enough to meet demand, which is not a bad problem to face.

Nissan Leaf is a nice little shopping trolley, but performance is weak, range is poor and their battery management seems far inferior to Tesla, with reports of significant degradation over just a few years. The Model 3 is a much more capable EV.

Not that I would ever buy a leaf but I think that’s a little unfair.
It’s the worlds best selling EV (or certainly was) and at a reasonable price. Range is more than reasonable too and has good space inside.
I personally think until cars like this become more common across all manufacturers I see it being a very long time to get people into EV’s.

The new leaf 2 is pretty good. Again not my style / cup of tea but to the majority of people that want an EV without a huge budget it works....
The world won’t become greener (if that’s your thing) buying Premium EV. It’s the little / cheaper EV’s that will achieve this imo.

It’s interetig to see EV UK sales are lower Feb 2018 to Feb 2017.

Not really in to my EVs (yet) but do they all lease the battery or is Renault still the only one doing this(for a token £1.00 a month?)
Seems to be one of the perceived obstacles for prospective purchasers removed in this fashion.

Don't know what Renault are doing, but AFAIK for most EVs the battery is purchased along with the rest of the car. eg for the i-Pace (which is potentially my next drive, though I was quoted 18-months delivery today) the battery has I think an 8-year 100K miles warranty for it not to go below 70% of original capacity. And I think that 70% is very much a worst case - all batteries decline slightly with age, but current reports ( :D ) suggest that for well-managed cars the decline can be very slight indeed. But eg if you regularly use superchargers/ultrachargers etc that dump a huge amount of energy into the battery very quickly then that's not ideal for battery health.
