One caveat, I haven’t actually watched this yet and I don’t actually really like this guy, but in case you haven’t seen it ....

Thanks, Hawkeye! :)

Nice Racing Yellow Carrera T. Shame about the 'presenter' who is actually pretty annoying. I saw a video of him collecting his T from the OPC and wondered who the heck he was. :?

Have met TGE a few times, actually a really decent and approachable guy. He gets his money from 2 places:

- Owner and co-founder of LDNM (fitness and supplements)
- Has a job in an investment bank

He's also got a business selling air fresheners (emojifresh). I realise he's not everyone's cup of tea, but off camera, he's actually a top bloke!

So he is not a "proper" Sleb then? I felt bad I didn't know of him at all.

Depends if you count YouTube fame as celebrity?

I work in tech/media and it really infuriates me how manufacturers are courting YouTubers, particularly those with a line of credit and family money which covers a large number of them. No envy but access to cars = content. It smacks of .com circa 2000 when a URL and company name was all it took to court investment.

It's not quite the same but anyone undertaking analysis into their audience profiles is going to find a high volume of pre-pubescent teens who think that running around with a camera pursuing cars is going to net them a champagne lifestyle. They're an absolute road hazard in Knightsbridge in Summer. I have a client based there and I bore witness to a flock of morons chasing a Kuwait plated Lamborghini through the intersection on foot with camera phones and video records waving around.

Manufacturers are hedging bets by letting them have press cars and sending them on press junkets. Very few of them offer a unique voice or perspective that's interesting and I don't think many have any driving credibility or basis to offer opinion. But audience numbers are what advertisers see in terms of reach.

That said, Mr JWW and TGE seem a lot more astute than the rest, the former having found a positioning that is taking him into traditional broadcast media and is helping him build credibility. TGE appears to have fallen into it and gained some ground with irreverence. I guess he is aspirational to some and peddling protein shakes and emoji air fresheners is probably a better revenue stream for him than ad placement on his channel for advertisers.

Those videos aren't going to age well.
