Notice the distinct lack of physical buttons that everyone seems so defensive about. I wonder how much they will tame it down for production? Or are they going to ignore the old men and just do it like the concept? I do hope the latter
Me too. And I think it’s inevitable. But the Porsche system is not simply a pad. Wing Commander is, I think, the only one of us to have experienced the Panny system which I think is also tactile in some way.

Nothing wrong with a simple pad if it's placed ergonomically as it is in the Tesla. On that concept Porsche, it looks as if you would need ape-like arms to actually reach the upper touchscreens. I've only sat in the latest Panny and didn't pay any attention to the controls (it was powered off) so can't comment on those.

As I've said many times before you don't actually spend much time prodding the touchscreen on the move. You look at it for info mainly, plus reversing camera, maps etc. Much of which is available on the dash display too if you prefer. The iPad only looks bad when it's switched off and you are faced with a huge blank screen, but it never is when you enter the car as it boots instantly when you unlock and always looks great. Passengers just go "wow" when they first see the effect. Going back to any car with a sub 10" screen, especially if it's low-res or even mono coloured too, looks pathetic afterward. It's like going back to an ancient laptop when the screen was tiny relative to the case size and the resolution, contrast and colour was all poor. None of this would matter to me on a track day car, but it would now on a premium daily driver!

Hi Mike.

Yes, although my memory of the 2017 Panamera is fading, I do recall that there were options to use buttons/knobs etc in some cases to control things, rather than having to actually touch the touchscreen all the time.

In my Carrera T, there are things that I generally prefer to do via buttons/knobs rather than the touchscreen (e.g. changing radio stations etc).

Cheers,

Simon

Wow, I didn't think anything could be worse than Mission E for a name.

Immediately it conjures Toycan, Tincan, Traycan, Teatray... Hopefully it'll have a nice three-digit number, and at least you'll be able to debadge it.
