"The near-silent car can hit 60mph in just 5.5 seconds and boasts a specially made 220kW engine.

Royal officials specially leased the £350,000 motor from Jaguar for the day - and even kitted it out with a bespoke numberplate that spells out the date of the wedding."

At last! a great looking EV.

Interesting development, but the title is a little misleading. They are talking about using grid scale storage batteries (very large batteries) for storing renewable energy to supplement the national grid. A car charging network will be tagged on to this and with 45 planned sites it will not be the world's largest charging network! First one is going to be in Southampton.

"Uncertain future of plug-in car grant leaves buyers in the dark.

Buyers of electric cars and plug-in hybrids are being kept in the dark as the Department for Transport refuses to reveal details about the future of the Plug-in car grant. The current scheme officially ended in April 2018 and despite promises of an announcement, there has still been no word from the Government."

This was an odd statement to make. Does this imply that they are going to reduce the grant, but don't want to put off investment in EV development? Or more likely they just don't know WTF they are going to do next!

"When asked what the maximum and minimum grant figure after April 2018 would be - and how much of the Plug-in car grant budget remained - the DfT refused to give us an answer.
The reason, it stated, was that if budget and grant rate information are publicly available, it could 'guide understanding of the EV uptake likely to be seen which in turn could impact the level of investment made in the sector.'"

Certainly I haven't seen any announcement about I-Pace yet. It's expected 'real soon now' but presumably must be specified before first deliveries start. It's all a bit awkward - I know that for some prospective buyers the grant value (£4.5K is it?) will make the difference between buying and not buying - the perceived VFM equation starts to look too unappealing without it.

Don't panic Mr Mannering!

The proposal to ban the sale of new ICE cars is not for another 21.5 years. How many governments / changes of policy will we have in the intervening years - lots.

Technology will also be working hard to save ICE as there is just so much invested in them - global jobs and production facilities, massive tax payers, private, pension fund and commercial investor shareholders.

How will 3rd world countries manage without ICE? They generally do not have access to plug in electric and necessary infrastructure.

We have already seen some developments -Bosch experimental turbos for diesels, synthetic fuel etc. The Arabs will become very poor without their oil sales and the mega-major oil companies are conspicuously quiet on the potential loss of their petrol and diesel forecourt sales. What do they know that we don't? :?:

.
Electricity has to be generated to charge the EVs and new oil powered power stations will no doubt be required.

Oil is used as raw material in many other industries including plastics so there will still be a huge need.
