My Macan SD was in the OPC yesterday having replacement summer tyres fitted and I had the use of a Cayman 718 for the day. This is the second time I've driven a Cayman. The first time was a manual and this one was an automatic. As my gear changing skills are a little rusty, I felt more at home with the PDK.

The setup on the PDK was markedly different to that in the Macan. Anything other than a very light touch on the throttle produced an instant down shift and a sharp prod resulted in anything up to a three gear drop. Due to traffic conditions, for the first half an hour I didn't get upto 60mph and was becoming convinced that the car was fitted with a six speed box. Then a stretch of relatively fast moving motorway revealed the final gear.

A truly wonderful day. Instant hard acceleration on demand. The only downside is the car is very noisy inside and suffers badly from tyre roar. When I got back in the Macan, the interior noise level felt more like an electric car in comparison.

Given the struggle I had getting in and out of the Cayman, it confirmed that at 73 I am too old for an outright sports car but it was a great experience.

One of the nice aspects of owning a Porsche is the decent loan cars we get.

Whenever my car is in for a service, oil change, tyre swap etc I take the day off & make the most of it! :) Nice adventure around the Cotswolds!
