30 minutes for a Rapid Charge is not exactly excessive.

What is not to like about an EV with a reasonable range?

With the Turbo if I need to fill up it is a specific journey to the nearest Shell filling station which involves a 4 miles round trip and the trip and fill up takes 20 minutes or longer if any of the three sets of traffic lights causes a delay.

Never having to waste time and add mileage just to fill up with fuel has to check a few boxes in the Petrol v EV ticklist.

What will not to like about the instant max rate of acceleration that an will EV give you?

When EVs will be in vast majority on the roads and you are stuck in traffic and no longer inhaling the fumes from the ICE’s you will be thankfull.

Apologies, a slight thread fork here: Why does the Milton Keynes area appear to have so many rapid chargers? On the Zap-map it looks like there are 40-50 separate charger sites within a 10-15 miles radius of MK. Is MK somehow consciously/deliberately a prototype location for an EV-centred city? Or are there simply a whole lot of EV owners in the area?

Possibly linked with the EV Experience Centre

Yes, I'm aware of that, but it's not totally obvious to me what the connection might be. Isn't the EV Experience Centre primarily 'just' somewhere to look at a range of EVs and then go out on test drives, with most charging presumably done back at base. Or are there many more users in and around MK driving EVs?

It almost looks like there are more rapid chargers than regular filling stations, maybe by a factor of 2-3x, though I've not done a careful count, which is a little bizarre. Assuming that it's not a mistake somehow or me misinterpreting the Zap-map it's an interesting indication of what charger density can be achieved if the local authority and businesses put their mind to it.

Or, another thought, could it be that a lot of MK (which I don't really know at all, at least beyond IKEA) housing was built without driveways and this is a prototype for how to deal with the issue where larger-scale home charging isn't possible?

Interesting as the hybrid grant is withdrawn and the zero emissions grant is being reduced by £1K.

And that very high in the latest car depreciation list are a whole gang of EVs. Clearly the market currently has concerns about the potential obsolescence of the current tech.

I happen to live near MK and can at least confirm that your findings are true. It really is very EV friendly! There is a Tesla showroom in the shopping centre, a Tesla service centre, the new EV experience centre and EV chargers literally everywhere. Also get free parking with an EV. I can only imagine it was some kind of local authority decision to promote EVs. It certainly worked as EVs are very popular in MK!

MK is a 'Go Ultra Low' city - read more about it here: https://evexperiencecentre.co.uk/go-ultra-low/

The EV experience centre is funded by the 'Go Ultra Low' scheme and run by Chargemaster. When I visited last month we were briefed about how far ahead of the rest of the UK they are in terms of EV take-up. Can't remember the figures but they sounded impressive, so they must be doing something right.

(EDIT: Just saw Col M's link above - similar stuff!)

All this EV talk got me wondering.

Online research shows that we can expect an explosion of new EV models being released in the next two years.

About 20 new primarily EV models by various manufacturers.

VW group for some strange reason seem to be at the forefront, BMW are a bit woolly but their i5 looks stunning, even the next Jag XJ is all electric or so the info goes.

My own favourite the VW Buzz.
