The head of R&D at BMW has said, in Paris, that with battery packs costing £25,000 and no sign of them getting cheaper - in fact the reverse - EVs will never be cheap and that ICEs will always be significantly cheaper to make!

I’m guessing this is likely to remain as the situation until significantly cheaper (and lighter) battery tech comes along. Lighter but equally or most robust materials would also help. Lots of challenges ahead then and maybe a divided motoring world.
EVs uneconomic

But here’s another nail in the coffin of an alternative with U.K. subsidies being cut on hybrids.

Typically cynical govt policy; carrot until the become accepted and popular and then once everyone wants one, stick if you don’t comply

Don't worry, according to 'Oxford scientists' if we all eat 90% less beef then we can continue to drive our ICE vehicles for the foreseeable future:

(OK so I didn't watch the piece, and I may be drawing my own conclusions, but hey here I am contributing to an EV thread! )

Depends on your world view.
I'd choose a future with under a billion humans enjoying a reasonable quality of life.
Certainly don't sympathise with any policy based on trying to feed more and more of us all suffering in some rat nest like hell.
Is there any point in cutting back on beef consumption when it's still legal to have endless children?

You are right Tim, the increasing human population is the biggest threat to our planet.

This BMW guy is so far off the mark you have to wonder how he got to be in that job in the first place! BMW are currently all over the place with their EV programs and you have to wonder whether they will even survive long term! I presume he also hasn't Googled the current cost of a Tesla Model 3 battery eitherDandock wrote: ↑Fri Oct 12, 2018 8:04 am The head of R&D at BMW has said, in Paris, that with battery packs costing £25,000 and no sign of them getting cheaper - in fact the reverse - EVs will never be cheap and that ICEs will always be significantly cheaper to make!

In other news, Autocar are reporting that BMW are aiming to set new EV benchmarks with their upcoming i4. Maybe they are aiming to have the world's most expensive battery?
