It’s really upsetting getting damage done like that, think if you new you had done it your self then you could live with it but it’s the thought that some jealous idiot might have done it really winds you up,I had some minor damage done to my Macan GTS ,the Porsche Center body shop did me a smart repair which was perfect and cost £180 ,personally I would have to make sure it was a perfect repair otherwise it would be on my mind every day.

It's a flat paint (i.e. Not metallic) and the width of the gouge isn't wide so a smart repair may well be suitable, if not Spray Master will then want to remove the bumper, flat, spray and bake, be surprised if anywhere less than £500. Would certainly be interested in hearing the quotes you recieve. If a smart repair isn't possible and the alternative cost is all to extreme try "Basset Auto Bodies" it's a small body shop ( you won't find many 911's there) Josh there is a one man operation and just did the rear bumper on my RV8 that I took a big chunk out of myself when I dropped the very heavy Classic Wilmot Breedon petrol cap on it 😖 It's a two pack pearlescent paint so a lot more complex to finish than a flat paint, good job done and very reasonably priced.

Sorry to see this. Worth getting a smart repair quote. Someone scratched my M3 and I got a smart repair done by Chips Away (on recommendation) and the guy did an excellent job. Only cost £95 too.

Good luck with getting it sorted.

I vote for a smart repair by a reputable body shop. After reversing into a tow bar in my previous BMW coupe, the bumper looked less than perfect. It was not cracked but had a good scrape, so needed a bit of a filler and a lick of paint. The smart repair cost about £200. Nowadays the bodyshops have manufacturers' paint codes so it's easy to mix the correct shade using computer wizardry.

And if you're not happy with the job, you can still get a new bumper / full re-spray later.

Good luck WingCo and hope it's soon sorted and forgotten. 8-)

I’m definitely leaning towards the smart repair route. I’m confident that a nearly perfect repair will do. Especially as the car is a daily driver and not a garage queen, so bound to pick up a few nicks & chips here and there, doing 15k to 16k miles per year.

Being only 3.5cm in length, you actually need to be quite close to the car to see the damage, so I feel I’d be happy with a smart repair for say a third of the cost of a full bumper respray.
My wife managed to argue with a garden wall the other day, putting a 9cm gouge in the plastic rear bumper of her Audi TT. I took it to a local smart repair place on Wednesday and picked it up today. For £200 they've done an invisible repair, respraying part of the rear bumper, and they also touched in a few stone chips while they were at it. Very happy!

Thank you, guys! Giving me more confidence in smart repair/chips away. I’ll keep you posted on quotes etc.

If a £200 job is 95% as good as a £500 job, I’ll go for that.

As stated, this is a daily driver and not a cosseted garage queen. I’ve covered 8k miles in the first 6 months already! I realise with my usage, and the car living outside, it will not retain totally showroom-perfect looks. ;)

Cheers,

Simon

Thanks, andreas. That gouge looks worse and bigger than mine and the job they’ve done looks great! Result! :)

Ha! :P

Far more mileage than the average 911, I’ll wager! ;)
