When I had a dent in the door of my Macan I took it to Tewkesbury and they got their dentmaster guy to sort it for £45. Very good service in my view. Might be worth checking to see if they have a chips away type of person. I can imagine that Swindon OPC is more geared towards generating business for their own body shop.......

Hi Rigger,

When the service guy at Tewkesbury pointed out the damage, he suggested visiting the BMW body shop nearby! ( This was before he realised that I lived in Swindon. )

Forum members have given me a couple of repair guys to contact, so I’ll try those.

Cheers,

Simon

Indeed it was Wingco, but I’ve had nothing but excellent service from my OPC since 2014

So sorry to see this Winco. Somehow malicious damage is so much more aggravating as it seems harder write it off to bad luck, wear and tear or just a moments misjudgment, I think :(

Re repairs - I would be happy with 90% improvement on the basis I may do something next week that needs more significant attention  Also, my 25,000 mile car has lots if little marks, chips, and scratches. To a casual observer it looks near perfect so something to ponder, particularly as you are using yours as it should be :) .

Regarding that, I note that you have put winter tyres on, sadly my experience is 80% of all chips are picked up between Nov-March so maybe spring time to do more significant work? Touch up paint is £18 :o from OPC but it looks like a little heat is needed for the plastics to return to flat.

DingMaster recently did our mini rear bumper (metallic) for about £250, it was less than your mark looks but is now perfect to my untrained eye ;) , we did it because sometimes you want things gone!

Hope you find a satisfactory solution for yourself and let us know as one of us may be next

Hi Simon

I would speak to a bodyshop about this. I had a similar issue a few years ago with a deep gash in a plastic bumper. Woman in a Range Rover with a crude tow hitch backed into the front of my 911. It wasn't as expensive to fix as I feared, no more than £300 or so. If memory serves, Porsche quoted me over £2,000.

My guess would be that they would plastic weld it if a lot of material has been torn out (judging by the shot). They use a hot air welder which drives a controllable spread of hot air that softens the two surfaces that are being bonded and a plastic filler rod is fed into the area. Once they have the fill, they'll cut it back and then prime and paint. As your car is a flat colour and it won't have been subject to years of UV, you shouldn't get any stories about blending panels.

I can recommend a bodyshop who would be able to give you some advice and is honest and trustworthy, even if you just want to validate approach and get an indication of prices. They're Rickmansworth way so just over an hour from Swindon if my geography is up to scratch so not entirely out of reach. They'd probably want the car for a couple days though to allow drying time for the painting.

Hope this helps.

Alex
