The Chips Away job cost £250 (less than the insurance excess) and was a perfect repair as far as I could see. It took him almost a day to do it on the driveway and he left me with a pot of touch up paint for the stone chips on the bonnet. I can’t recommend them highly enough.
Thanks, Macman. Certainly Chips Away, or a similar type of non-Porsche smart repair seems the way to go. :)

Personally it would be on my mind and I would have to have it repaired,a £90k Porshe with a damaged bumper, the 911 4S I bought has a full PPF fitted but on the rear spoiler there was a 2cm slight cut in the film ,most people would never have noticed it but I new it was there so I’ve had the PPF replaced on the spoiler but that me .

Hi Steve,

I love my 911, but being a relatively high mile muncher, I can’t be too precious about it.

Am confident that the 3.5cm scar won’t worsen over the winter.

It lives outdoors and I use the car too much to try to keep it in 100% pristine showroom condition. Life’s too short. ;)

Cheers,

Simon

Sorry to see this Wing, but I think you have a few things on your side that make it easier dealt with. Being non metallic it will be much easier to touch in . As a daily driver, not a garage queen if it were mine I could live with a slightly less than 100% repair. Being on the bumper a little lower so less obvious. I could live with a 95% smart repair before I would respray as once you start spraying panels even the slightest mismatch is hard to hide.

Hi Folks,

I’ve been a bit remiss and still haven’t had this scratch sorted!

As the above posts are nearly 2 years old, can anyone recommend a Chips Away person in the Wiltshire area?

Am looking for a personal recommendation of someone who has done good work and would be happy to look at a job in Swindon.

Cheers,
Simon

Thanks to one helpful forum member for giving me a Chips Away recommendation. :)

That franchisee has replied, saying that he sadly doesn’t cover the Swindon area. He suggested ringing the main 0800 number for Chips Away, but I’d sooner have a personal recommendation, rather than rolling the dice and hoping that the Swindon guy is any good.

So if anyone has dealt with a Chips Away franchisee who’d cover Swindon, I’d appreciate some info.

Cheers,
Simon

Hi Winco,
I have no recommendation apart from some chips away operatives work from a workshop and not outside open to the elements, found a local one in Dartford, his prices seemed no dearer and he made a first class repair for me, worth a thought while you are shopping around.

Thank you. I have now made contact with a local Chips Away guy here in Swindon. He has his own workshop and has been operating since 2005. He seems to have good reviews too. And as a bonus, his premises are literally just around the corner from me! Less than half a mile from my front door!

I got an estimate from a traditional body shop of £800 including VAT, removing the bumper & replacing all the badging etc. :o

Simon
