What should a car sound like?
True, many modern ICE cars are so quiet at pootling speed. Ironically, I can always here a Tesla S or X coming because of the road/tyre noise. Luxo ICE cars tend to have better noise dampening.Peteski wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2019 12:11 pm This is the most annoying BS I've come across for ages. What noise exactly does a typical modern ICE car engine make at supermarket carpark speeds on approach? You can hardly tell the engine is running on most cars unless you are inside it or stood literally right behind it. Unless of course you have some obnoxious sports exhaust! If there is any artificial noise required, it should be a reversing warning only IMHO. But it looks like we're going to pollute towns and cities with artificial "engine" noise regardless.
But when you live and move in environments with a very high car and pedestrian density, some audio cues are welcome. Except most people are zombies glued to their phones or have headphones on. Perhaps we need the phone companies to build tech into devices to detect cars and make beeping noises over the headphones, or a message popping up on the screen telling them: "look where you're fucking going."

Perhaps EVs drivers should be encouraged to use manual mode, and sound the horn more. It would help if they had bloody great HGV type klaxons instead of the wimpy horns some vehicles have, the only chance of alerting our present generation of earphone/mobile obsessed cyclists and pedestrians.
Present: Macan S 2019 (PK1QF9N7), Audi Q3 S-line Quattro

What? You think they make more tyre noise outside the car!? Tesla fit Michelin Latitude Sport 3 Acoustics as standard on my car, which are designed specifically to emit less road noise than standard Latitudes. The reason you probably notice the tyre noise more is because it's about the only noise they make at low speed.
Actually my Tesla has a really loud horn. It's quite impressive by today's standards.davetronic wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2019 7:54 am Perhaps EVs drivers should be encouraged to use manual mode, and sound the horn more.
