Thinking of a week in Cornwall this year for a family holiday with wife and kids aged 14 and 12. Anyone any good recommendations of a nice place to stay likely a self catering as a hotel for a week can be too claustrophobic. A pool is always good for the kids although not totally essential if the area has enough to keep us amused.

Tregenna Castle Resort, St. Ives has it all. Hotel. Self catering properties, heated indoor and outdoor pools. Golf course etc.

www.tregenna-castle.co.uk

Fabulous beaches, interesting shops, bars, cafes and restaurants all in St. Ives and favourable micro climate.

We were there a week ago:

Was actually thinking of st Ives area as remember going there as a kid. Will have a look.

Is there much to do around that area?

Loads - both indoors and outdoors. It depends what you are looking for, but here are a few things:

Surfing and surf schools, swimming, fishing, sailing, walking / hiking.
Tate Gallery, Go-karting, theme parks, Minack Theatre - a unique outdoor theatre built into the cliffs,
Boat trips, Steam train trips, Isles of Scilly [by plane or boat].
Days out to Newquay, Fowey, Falmouth, Truro, Helston, Padstow etc. and Lands End, The Lizard, St. Michael's Mount, Tin Mines, Seal Sanctuary etc.

Cautionary tale about St Ives:

As I was going to St. Ives,
I met a man with seven wives,
Each wife had seven sacks,
Each sack had seven cats,
Each cat had seven kits:
Kits, cats, sacks, and wives......

But Torquay is Devon. Not Cornwall.

Dartmouth or Salcombe are far nicer in that region.

The kids are liking the look of Tregenna Castle - although haven't a clue how that is pronounced lol.

SAC1 did you stay in the hotel or self catering? We would maybe go self catering to give more space as we will be there for a week but there is a huge range of properties available so any advice would be great.
Are all the self catering places within close proximity to the hotel and pools etc ?

The website talks of a walk into St ives but maybe steep on the return trip? Is this the best way to get into the village or can you drive a bit and park? I will be hiring a car so tight parking spaces for once won't cause me stress!!
