SAC1 did you stay in the hotel or self catering? We would maybe go self catering to give more space as we will be there for a week but there is a huge range of properties available so any advice would be great.
Are all the self catering places within close proximity to the hotel and pools etc ?

The website talks of a walk into St ives but maybe steep on the return trip? Is this the best way to get into the village or can you drive a bit and park? I will be hiring a car so tight parking spaces for once won't cause me stress!!
The walk up to Tregenna is fine. No need to drive in - very limited parking at sea level anyhow!

^^^We have always stayed in the hotel, but the self catering has a choice of converted cottage style properties to large modern "Swiss chalet* style detached ones. They're 5 to 10 mins. walk to the hotel's facilities.

Here's the link for their various self catering properties https://www.tregenna-castle.co.uk/self- ... mmodation/

We always walk into the town and to the beaches as parking is limited and the streets are narrow. It takes about 15 minutes to walk uphill back from the town to the hotel. However with a hire car it will go anywhere no matter how tight the fit  :D :D :)

Thanks for the replies.

Yes as you say a hire car on zero excess will happily go and park anywhere!

Like the look of some of the Signature range of self catering places.

Anyone any good recommendations of a nice place to stay likely a self catering as a hotel for a week can be too claustrophobic. A pool is always good for the kids although not totally essential if the area has enough to keep us amused.
I spend a week every year in Cornwall and stay in St Austell at the Cornwall Spa Hotel - it is a hotel with all the facilities of a hotel - pool, restaurant, tennis courts, gym but has the all important Woodland lodges - 2 and 3 bedroom self catering accommodation. Loads of stuff to do - Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan, loads of wonderful beaches (Carlyon is our favourite), Wheal Martyn, Fowey (a really beautiful little village with some stunning walks.

Stayed there with the family for a holiday around 15 years ago. We had a self catering cottage in the grounds and always walked down to St Ives to eat in the evening. I don't recall it being mega steep (although I was a bit younger back then) and the path takes you through the tropical gardens, which makes for a pleasant walk. You could always get a cab back to the hotel.

Thanks to all. Great to have a few people on here who stayed at Tregenna. Think we will book it. Seems the Signature Properties are no more expensive than the standard which doesn’t make a lot of sense.

A week booked in one of the signature self catering homes. Not sure why but the Signature range seem generally less expensive than the non Signature homes??

We don't get the home until Sunday late afternoon but arrive Bristol airport Sat morning. Any good suggestions of some place or places to visit on the way down and then stay the Sat night. Don't want to spend too much on this night as it's just a stopgap.

Then on way home we will leave St Ives on Sun. I'm thinking of maybe a day at PEC Silverstone on Monday or Tuesday. Any where worth a visit and maybe an overnight stay enroute from Cornwall to Silverstone? I'm sure many of you guys live in these areas and can advise

A day in Bristol (1/2 hr from the airport - like most!) is easy to fill, stay overnight and then just blast down the M5 / A30

Or if you want to get some miles in first stop off around Oakhampton / Dartmoor.

Back the same way but overnight in Bath; longer first leg - all depends how many miles you (and the kids) are happy with in one hit?

It depends on what you and your family enjoy and like doing....but here are a few thoughts.

On the way to St. Ives there are some good National Trust properties to explore. Near Bristol Airport is NT Tyntesfield. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/tyntesfield or NT Lanhydrock near Bodmin, just into Cornwall www.nationaltrust.org.uk/lanhydrock

More midway there is Exeter, a lovely cathedral city or Plymouth which a proud maritime history and has the UK's largest aquarium www.national-aquarium.co.uk

Alternatively, If you go via the North Devon link road off the M5 you could visit Clovelly www.clovelly.co.uk and stay at the Red Lion Inn - go for their sail loft bedroom/s. www.clovelly.co.uk/staying-clovelly/the-red-lion-hotel/

Fowey also makes for a great stop over [and about 3 hrs from Bristol Airport]. www.fowey.co.uk
Right on the Quayside is the lovey Haveners www.havenersfowey.co.uk but it does not have it's own car park, but public ones nearby.
Safe Harbour Inn is a reasonable priced inn with a small car park http://www.thesafeharbourinn.com/

Going to Silverstone you could stop over at Bath, one of the finest cities in the land.

Alternatively head for the Haynes Motor Museum, Sparkford, Somerset www.haynesmotormuseum.com/?gclid=EAIaIQ ... gJgsfD_BwE

Then carry on to see the historical sites of Stonehenge www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/place ... stonehenge

or Avebury www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/place ... nt=avebury

The Westcountry is a big holiday area, so a large variety of accommodation from budget hotels, inns and Travel Lodge / Premiere Inn types to high end 5* hotels for stop overs.

Enjoy. ☀☀☀

Brilliant guys thanks. Plenty to consider there. Did think of Bath on way back so that might be a good plan. Was there many years ago but can't remember much of what there is to do.

Problem with PEC thought. I asked for the Monday or Tuesday but the earliest they can do is Thursday. It is the British Grand Prix the previous weekend and PEC is closed at the start of the next week for circuit cleanup.
