My input.. I had a 991 Gen 1 and loved the car. Naturally aspirated engine.. handled lovely and the PDK box was great in my opinion.
If I had had a little more money, would I have gone for the 997? Yes, I think I would have only because of the facelift. I'm not sure the engine noise is the same, others hear will advise that.. but I think you should push for the best you can. Work out what extras you can live without and go and buy one.
Which 911 of about 10 Years Old?
991 is a newer car than the 997 so expect the 997 would be cheaper to buy? Or am I missing something?uktivo wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2019 3:26 pm My input.. I had a 991 Gen 1 and loved the car. Naturally aspirated engine.. handled lovely and the PDK box was great in my opinion.

Say a chap fancied a change of carriage or a second car but needed to keep the missus and so had a lowly budget for a ten year old or over 911 what to look for and what to avoid? Manual v PDK? 2 v 4 wheel drive etc? I’m thinking reliability is a priority.

Tom, unless I’ve missed it, I can’t see that you’ve quoted a budget?
Giving us a ballpark budget might help folks with suggestions, for your friend.

Tom, there was a really nice 2005 997s manual 2wd advertised in NI cars last week. Private with 50k or so, full yearly history, seemed a proper enthusiast's car. Looked after by George McMillan so history easily checked. Low £20s as I remember. Gone now sadly but exactly what I would be buying if in the market for that sort of thing.

That sounds surprisingly reasonably pricedRab J wrote:Tom, there was a really nice 2005 997s manual 2wd advertised in NI cars last week. Yes I thought that too. It was one of the early, possibly troublesome engined ones, but it was also on the lower road tax band and at that price and its provenance with a local specialist would have comforted me. It was private so no dealer premium to pay and at a price that at couple of thou spent on preventative maintenance wouldn't have been a problem. To top it all it was red so what can I say. Disappeared in less that a week so someone else agreed with me.VanB wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2019 8:36 pmThat sounds surprisingly reasonably pricedRab J wrote:Tom, there was a really nice 2005 997s manual 2wd advertised in NI cars last week. I have not set a budget, and it might never happen. I wanted to know what to look at and what to avoid and just nurture the plan.
