I had a similar incident today, but luckily with no collision.

Approached roundabout in the right hand lane of four lanes, indicating my intention to turn right. Old chap in a little red hatchback drew up in the lane to my left, also indicating to turn right. We both moved off, but I was unsure of his intentions, so held back a little. Surprise, surprise - he crossed my path and proceeded to complete a 360 manoeuvre, going back from whence he came, and I completed my intended route to my exit at 3 o’clock...

As a motorcyclist, I just assume everyone else on the road is an incompetent dickhead and is out to kill me.

It instills a degree of caution that "seems" to work? - touchwood of course!!

uktivo wrote: Sat Jun 15, 2019 2:35 pm Sorry, I disagree. Two lanes enter the roundabout and two lanes exit the roundabout at the 12 o'clock. Why shouldn't I be in the right hand lane?
Because defensive driving suggests that you're more aware/in control of conflicting traffic it you make your manoeuvre from the LH lane. You did nothing legally wrong (unless the lanes were marked to the contrary) but it sounds like your accident wouldn't have happened had you been in the LH lane. I'm not unsympathetic at all but it comes down to how much allowance you routinely make for other drivers not behaving as expected.

...so long as the driver in the RH lane doesn’t then choose to turn left... ;)

Well. the point is that from the driver's seat you have a closer view of what's happening on your RH side and can easily take avoiding action if necessary.
