There is defo a 718-6 coming. I've been told it'll be announced in the Autumn with deliveries early next year. I've been promised one if I don't get a Spyder allocated. The only question is will it sit above the GTS or replace it?

I think with the 718 flat four, great car as it is having flopped it will be a choice of a return to a flat six or can the Boxster Cayman completely. As the engine in the latest GT4 / Spider is completely new and not just a detuned GT3 I would think Porsche must have more plans for it past a few thousand GT 718s

Go for it @salty. The 718 is a gem of a car and the engine peachy. Like @gtipirelli, I live with it as a daily driver (CGTS) and it's docile until prodded. I wear lead soled shoes and get approx 27.5 mpg in mostly town and rural driving.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I’m going back to the OPC for another test drive and to discuss spec this week. I can only get a build slot for Nov/Dec delivery or one for March delivery so will probably go for the latter. I’ll be checking out the possibility of a 718-6 while I’m there as the sales executive said that a face lifted Cayman/Boxster may be a 6cylinder 3.0ltr turbo.

Hmmm - detuned version of the engine from the 991.2/992 Carrera maybe...? 🤔

Yes a Carrera T engine with 370BHP in a Cayman would be a sweet car

Agreed, but they won’t do it, for fear of cannibalising 911 sales!

They’d reduce the power & torque for a non-GT car. ;)

The new base 911 will be out shortly with probably 390 / 400 bhp so the 370bhp engine would fit perfectly in the usual Porsche hierarchy.

IMO this is spot on. Intriguing possibilities for tuning it too - a Cayman or Boxster with 450 hp would be a very interesting proposition.

I’ve not heard about the F6 going back in to the 718 but if it did I would suspect that would affect the residuals of the top line 4 cylinder cars

I suspect most upgraded from the 981 to 718 just because they wanted newer spec/look etc and took the possible compromise with the change in engine to do that

I had a a couple of 718S on loan so had back to back with our 981S and to me there were more downsides to upsides which was sort of confirmed by what must be the ‘worst’ Porsche salesman ever who said to me that we got the spec of our 981 so right that he wouldn’t bother changing it for a new one !

We also got strong money back for us when I sold it at just a smidge under 50% of new price for a 7 year old, 45k mile car.
