Long shot but any members have experience of these?

Old man suddenly announced yesterday he was looking at buying one.

Prices vary massively but the one he has his eyes on is c£80k which seems toppy based on my research but I’m not stopping him!

Emotional purchase - his dad had one (who I never met) and so I will keep it come what may.

Any advice appreciated!

I fancied one of these many years ago before prices went silly. Did a bit of research and looked at a few but didn’t do it in the end. As you may well know, they rust, like any car of that era, so any cars around now will have had extensive restoration. That needs to have been done properly, which is expensive, as there were a lot of dodgy opportunists around back then seeking to make quick money when prices were rising. Engines are pretty bullet proof, but I recall overdrive units need checking along with all the usual things for cars of this type and age. Depending on your dad’s and your knowledge and experience you may wish to consider an independent specialist to carry out an inspection for you. Help and advice may be available through the Mk2 owners forum.

Thank you

The one he has seen was restored by beechams who seem to be One of the best in the world

It lived in Japan than Marbella before it came back here so is said to be in very good condition with some sensible upgrades (new 5 speed box etc ).

He is calling the dealer today so guess I’ll find out more

Great old cars, one of my cousins had several back in the 80”s. Most British classics returning from Japan will have had a good life and be well cared for but £80k is very steep even for the best preserved/refurbed. You could suggest he hires one for the day before committing to buy. Nostalgia is wonderful but reality has its place too. He may become totally smitten or choose to buy a new Ford 🙄. Here’s a link to a Cotswold hire company.

I believe I have seen the car you are talking about, it was on the dealers stand @ Props and Pistons East Kirkby last August bank holiday, it looked fab, very nice, all my friends from PCGB R4 where enthusing about it. The dealer has had it in stock for a while, it is still on their website. From that I am not inferring issues with the car, I am mentioning it more as a potential discount tool!

He has in fact hired a couple , one less good than the other, hence he knows what he does and doesn’t want in one.

Sounds like the one and yes some stalking on Facebook found the dealer and thus roughly how long they had it so I said the same to the old man yesterday

I’ll let him know you’ve seen it

Do you know anything about the dealer?

I would consider a car that has had the full Beechams treatment to be 're-engineered' rather than just rebuilt. It it has some sensible upgrades that will much improve the driving experience.

Sorry but don’t know anything about the dealer except that they have a large stand inside the main hanger @ the east lincs aviation centre when they have the Props and Pistons event on in August ( not on this year ) . They have been there last 2 or 3 years. Some very tasty cars for sale ie Audi RS2, DB6, Ferrari, etc, the Beecham jag caught my eye as I have never seen one before in the flesh. Very tasty it was too, just looked @ my snaps on my phone but no shots of it. As a previous post said

The car certainly attracted a lot of interest on the day, as in have you seen that Beecham jag etc . I only thought it was worth your dad knowing they had it up for sale for nearly 12 months.
