I doubt these surveys compare the resale price with that originally paid including options. Can they even determine what price was originally paid? A £50K car worth £35K a few years later looks good; however if it actually cost £70K with options, then less so.

Quite so. My car had £17k above list in options and at just over 3 years old, that really doesn't correlate to these reported future value percentages?

Think if resale value is critical you really have to keep a sensible lid on the options. Can sometimes be tricky though but better to go for higher level as standard. Seen a few used private sales advertised so heavily spec’d and priced that they don’t move until the owner eventually takes a reality check 🤕
