Completely agree Doug and Rab.

I simply cannot understand why anyone would buy a Porsche and not have it fitted with the extras that make its performance and handling the best it can be.

If they are not prepared to do this then its simply driving a badge, you are entering the footballers Wives territory, poseur special et al.

If you are not prepared to build a proper Porsche then why not save £20 grand and buy a Q3 or X1 or X3 or even heaven forbit an F Pace.  If a shopping trolley or kids run special is all you need then these will fit the bill perfectly.

So to use this "performance and handling" do you use your Porsche on a track? On UK roads you certainly wont be near either limits.
I think we know the answer already from previous posts.
The "footballers wives" market will also be a huge money maker for Porsche and who's to say they are wrong for choosing such a nice vehicle but never using the "performance and handling"?

One irony I find is that the broader general public could likely not even tell the difference between a base Macan and a Turbo. In fact, most people think my car is a Cayenne! We exist as a small microcosm of enthusiasts on this forum.

To be honest i can tell from the cailpers usually. But as you say i have to double take the Cayennes these days as they have a very similar design language!

Agreed, Hawkeye. The £25k + difference in cost and marginally quicker acceleration times would pass most members of the general public by. Put a 2.0 and a Turbo PP in the same colour and wheels, and only a Porsche enthusiast/geek could tell them apart.

Even more so in 911s where the cost differences can be much greater...

Having said that, I'm happy to be a Porsche enthusiast/geek!! Wing Commander2016-11-24 19:59:38

Yes, also find most people that comment on my Macan think it's a Cayenne. It's sapphire blue and Cayennes don't come in that colour!!
Us enthusiasts know that and probably most of the other differences but as you say we are a minority group.

I don't think Porsche are on their own when it comes to model confusion. BMWs are like Russian dolls, threes and fives particularly difficult to separate, with Mercs not a lot better.
