Used to have a 240 mile each way weekly commute.

Really looked forward to jumping into the 928 every Friday afternoon with a load of decent music.

Getting up on Monday at 3-00am for a 2.5 hour drive back wasn't as much fun.

If you're only doing that on a Monday and Friday you're probably spending less time on the motorway with less congestion than most that have a shorter but daily commute.

I'd have thought regularly driving 240 miles at an average of 96mph might be quite a lot of 'fun', on British roads anyway.

Not fun at all for most Monday and Friday commuters.

240 miles is London to Preston, and its a case of been there done that.

Anything from 3 to 10 hours to get home on freaky Friday (every Friday),

Set off @ 04:30 to get into central Londan before 10:00 if I was lucky.

The only time I had Fun was coming off the Motorway and driving through the Peak District to avoid any reported long queues around Brum and mile after mile of M6 roadworks. This always added about 1.5 hours to the journey home but at least I was moving.

I certainly wouldn't dare do it today; it was virtually all motorway.

The trip up on Friday evenings was different, worst ever was over seven hours.

Years ago I had a weekly return to Exeter and aimed to average 100mph with one petrol stop. Had optional extra headlights and made sure I went to bed early and sober. That was my old XR3i that dissolved around me.

Speed per se isn't dangerous and removing the variable of other cars by travelling early used to be a practical option.

I respect the law and around here even most of the cameras are placed sensibly.

Need to change the heading to 'diesel and petrol' as London is charging for both if not Euro 4. So my SD will be ok but not the old Beamer!

Are you referring to charging as in the increased parking costs?

It's on Sky News, called the T-charge (toxicity) £10 goes on top of the congestion charge. Starts October.
