I agree. But this is a good thing for pre-facelift Macan ownersDon't know if this is a deliberate policy buy Porsche has never really radically changed their vehicles even from one generation to the next. Vis 986 to 987 boxster. Our 987 still looks fresh (until you park in next to a 981)

I kind of agree. Best example is the 911 that has changed very gradually over 54 years!
As you say, the difference only really becomes obvious when you see two different versions parked side by side!
Although obviously the new Panamera is pretty easily distinguishable from the original shape

If you look closely it's obvious that they've covered the entire area between the rear lights, so I think the Boxster/Cayman style light bar is a certainty. Looks like they've also tried to cover the area between the front grille and air intakes on either side of it. Maybe a slight change to the front is on the cards too then. I wonder if the interior will change much?
It doesn't look like there'll be any compelling reasons to change though. Not that I would anyway...

Why can't they put the new 296bhp 718 (for the base macan) engine in instead of the vw unit? I'm not an engineer but seems obviousPackaging.
and / or £s (I bet the VW motors are half the price of the Porsche ones)

For exactly the same reasons that they did not put the SQ5 engine with its 330bhp in the SD.

Not really. That engine would at least fit.
It's all about packaging. The flat 4 in the 718 is designed so sit in front of the rear axel and low in the car with all the connections for fuel, air intake, gearbox, exhaust all planned around that package.
The engine could be repackaged to fit in the front of a AWD vehicle with all the other things that need to be done, but why bother?
If Porsche didn't need to have a flat/low engine in those cars, they'd not bother and they'd have glorious V shaped engines instead.
No, the SQ5 engine isn't in the SD because of marketing.
