Q5 loaner
We have one of each, the Q5 is our 2nd and at nearly 6 years old, it has proven pretty faultless as a comfortable, useful family car.
The Macan is a nicer place to sit and the drive is more engaging, but at nigh on 50% more expensive, I would expect it to be?

When I was looking at the Macan I configured a Q5 to a similar spec. I maybe wrong but I seem to remember that it came out about the same - or a least not far away enough. And I simply couldn’t ignore that extra something that the Macan had to offer.

Agreed. The Macan does cost a bit more, but not 50% more, if comparing similar models.
Mind you, there's a recent group road test on here where a £50k SQ5 was compared to a £70k (rough figures) Macan Turbo PP. And even there, with a top of the range Macan compared to a 'lesser' Q5, the differential was 'only' around 40%, but not comparing apples with apples.

I meant 50% between our 2 cars, £65k vs £42k, but as said, one is a 2.0 tdi the other a 3.0 tdi and a 6 year age gap, so not really like for like? Haven't priced up a Q5 recently TBH?

Yesterday I configured a new sQ 5 petrol . It came to a fraction under 59k this including pan roof , air , hud, matrix headlights, metallic paint. 21 inch wheels and a few extra bits. A similar Specification Gts is around 66k .. so only 7/8k difference between the two.
Macan GTS.Vol/ grey turbo 21s, Bose, Panroof, heated seats and steering wheel, 18 way , red belts, LEDs, light comf mem, privacy , compass, 18 spare wheel, aluminium inserts, auto dim mirrors, smoked,r/rails,p/assi. CAYMAN GTS now

Then add in a 10% or more discount on the SQ5 (via DTD et al) and the real world difference would be more like £15k
Macan GTS - Mar 17 to Jan 23
Macan SD - Apr 16 to Mar 17

So what price a better car?jk88 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2017 2:09 pmMike and his Macan wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2017 12:11 pm Yesterday I configured a new sQ 5 petrol . As we're all driving or have owned a Macan rather than a Q5 in whatever guise then any saving would appear academic.

That’s a fair point... but I’m was just thinking that the what car test should have used the GTS as a comparison , rather than the Turbo.
