My Father in Law has had the diesel Macan S for the last 3 years and loved it - he's a car enthusiast and so hard to please - He's ordered a new diesel Macan S and was due to be delivered in two weeks.

Porsche phoned him yesterday to say its built and in Germany but can not be released until its had the software reboot to fix the emissions issues. When asked when this would be they said indefinitely but shouldn't be too long- when pushed further on what difference this would make to the performance of the car again they said they were unsure at this stage.

Not very helpful or reassuring - does anyone have any further info or experiences?????

Really don't think that anyone knows at this stage. Most plausible speculation I've seen suggests little or no difference to performance, but potentially some increase in AdBlue consumption.

Word has it that the German/ EU regulators have rejected the VW software fix for the new 3.0D engines and it is going to take some sort of a mechanical change to pass.

+1... I quote again, “ No amount of software updates will solve this problem” . However with the new A7 they have a Hybrid Diesel .. why not on the Macan? I can only think that the engine won’t fit?.

Quite happy to keep my 2015 diesel. Now done 22,500 miles. MOT due in May. Do I go for an extended warranty or risk it ? Never owned a car for such a long time as normally get bored but the Macan diesel is such a good car. So including my first Macan bought in May 2014 I have now had a Macan for almost 4 years.

Likewise Mark, I had my first Macan December 14, had 9 months without one , awaiting No4 there really is no other SUV i want, the SD is without doubt a fine motor.

I did have an order for Macan diesel number 3 due for March 2017 but cancelled in Jan 17 when OPC were asking silly money to change, told them to stuff it.

A bad week for the Caster Household - not only has my beloved SD suddenly been dropped from configuration/availability but so has one of the Good Lady's preferred new motors (to order this month) the Seat Ateca 1.4L! Apparently a reason for the latter was they couldn't make enough of the 1.4L VW engine to meet demand!

Hope they get the SD back on track for my next years Macan No 2 purchase as, like mark-yorkshire and Spud, I think it's a tough act to beat - especially for my requirements. If not, I might have to also consider an extended warranty to keep it longer or have a bit more detailed look at the petrol jobs!

PS....fingers crossed this years facelift doesn't do away with all the centre console switches (I could be on a loser there!) - if so, that could be another reason to keep mine longer!

Is the dropping of the 1.4 not because it being replaced across the VAG range with the new 1.5 unit?
