Two year anniversary and service so into Tewkesbury this morning. I asked for a Cayman - just for fun really - never expecting the weather. So this what greeted me this morning - a brand spanker with just 16 miles on the clock.

Popped into Waitrose on the way home, parked with deference and gave the car washers an earful.

Lovely car. There must be something about Cayman loaners and the weather. When I had mine for a day (two year service like you) it peed down with rain all day. Car still handled brilliantly.

First manual car I'd driven for six years but only stalled it once. Auto stop start re-started the engine as soon as I depressed the clutch.

Very nice - like the colour and wheels. I was surprised how relaxed my OPC were about me driving their 911 GTS in the snow!

I love the idea of it but it is oh so firm, particularly on the appalling roads through Cheltenham. And very noisy even without the sports exhaust turned on. Maybe I’m getting old. 😫

Perhaps not too old then.

I wonder how many potential buyers are compromised by such decisions.

A LOT!

I was reading an article in a Vehicle Dynamics magazine recently that was commenting on how vehicle dynamicists are tearing their hair out over the marketing trend of ever bigger rims and ultra-low profile tyres, while our roads are getting more bumpy and potholed. The sweet-spot in terms of ride/handling is around 50-55 series profiles and anything much below that starts to cause havoc with both ride and handling traits. It's not new news or anything, but the use of over-sized rims makes the whole suspension/damping package far more complicated than it really needs to be. There are some advantages to large rims i.e. more space for bigger discs/calipers and wider outboard upright mounts, but 18" is plenty big enough for those needs. Once you start getting into 20, 21 and even 22" rims you are well into the marketing > engineering realm. Don't fall for it if you want the best drive!

Very nice Night Blue Cayman, Mike! :) Nice wheels too. ;)

Surprised that it wouldn't fit within the white lines though, even with all that space!?!

But the wheels look SO good! And Porsche know it! Which is why virtually all the publicity shots of new models, and the demos that journalists are given to drive, mostly have the biggest wheels. And often concept/prototype cars go one step further & feature over-sized wheels. Not to mention the recent Porsche trend to drop the suspension artificially low on cars at motor shows (e.g. Panamera and Cayenne). :ugeek:
