So... forget the turbo-pdk-six pot debates, is this what we really need to worry about?

And while we’re at it I read that the rural speed limit in France is to be reduced to 80 kph. Mon dieu!

I think we do need to worry about it!
If you don’t want to take responsibility behind the wheel, use National express, or the train!
(and the French are spitting bullets about the 50 mph on B roads, citing β€œ money grabbing radars.....”)

No wonder Volvos are the safest, all they do nowadays is take the kids to school and do the shopping.

Years ago there were literally thousands mile munching the Motorways, today hardly ever see any on the Mways.

Its good that active braking is getting to be standard, it should be standard on all vehicles. Just think how safe pushing the shopping trolley around the car park of a Supermarket if vehicles were not able to reverse if movement was detected behind the car.

AEB makes a lot of sense in the same way that ABS brakes and stability control did. Should be standard issue on all new cars and probably soon will be. AFAIK Volvo has the only AEB that also actively steers the vehicle away from the impending head-on collision (as fitted to the new XC60, but not the XC90 as of last year - although probably updated on the 2018 MY).

I'm not sure how AEB is a worry to anyone? It's totally transparent to the driver.

The article is factually incorrect. I have had 2 different XC90s and none of them had AEB.

I bet the driver of the blue car wishes it had been fitted - watch the background!
