It was a fabulous trip! Excellent weather for nearly 4. Weeks. Travelled through 6 countries on a variety of different roads including Autobahn (mad!) and superb Alpine passes such as Grossglockner. The car was Great and coped with everything with ease. We managed to get all luggage in the boots which is one reason I prefer it to a 911 or cayman.

Great photos and great weather. I think the Cayman rear boot is a good size and if the parcel shelf is removed there is extra space behind the seats.

Not having (yet) owned either a Boxster or a Cayman, I would have naturally thought that the Cayman would be at least as practical as a Boxster? :geek:

Lovely pics. I’m envious. I’d love to have a Boxster or Cayman and go on a trip like that, but not practical with young kids. Maybe when the kids have left school...

The Boxster has two boots whereas the Cayman only has one, and the extra rear boot is a decent size. I was also surprised that the Boxster with the roof up actually feels a bit more roomy than the Cayman as the rear does not not slope down so steeply. Both would be great fun on a trip across Europe - we're planning one for next year.

Yeah, I noticed the relatively sizeable rear boot on the Boxster on the couple of occasions that I've had one as a loaner from the OPC. Absolutely loved them with the top down, but not always practical in this country.

I haven't yet had a chance to drive a Cayman. The rear luggage compartment in the Cayman looks quite shallow, and also on display under the rear door/hatch. So where has the space gone in the Cayman, that the Boxster utilises for its rear boot? :?

They must have changed the layout; I’m confident my old (2008) Cayman S had a fairly decent boot at the rear (ie 2 x soft overnight bag size) as well as at the front?

Have just Googled it. Rear luggage capacity looks pretty decent, although one or two of these might be a little over-loaded... ;)

Yes, there is enough room in the Cayman too for a touring holiday. The "frunk", as we call it, is very deep. The boot at the back is much shalower, but still very usable. It has a drop down screen to cover the contents of the boot. One just needs to use soft, duffle bags, not hard, inflexible suitcases. Unless you have them made to measure. ;-)

We even took some camping chairs when we went to Spa 6 Hour Classic the other year. It too is a surprisingly practical car for two, as is the Boxster. Looking at the photos, the Boxster has a proper boot lid, rather than a tailgate, so you don't have to be so concerned about rattling contents in the boot. In the Cayman, everything is in the cabin with you, in a way.

We love taking our 987 to Europe. It's easy to pack enough for a couple of weeks and it can all be out of sight. Not so with a 911.
