Rear Pads replaced

Car went in for a 20K service and new pads in response to its alert message yesterday, returned today, the bill looked like this, I think there's either been an error on the cost of parts or it's an end of season sale! Go figure...

Rear Brakes That was a surprise, I expected it to be the front.
Inc VAT
£117.14 Set of pads
£24.41 Wear sensor x2
£3.22 Bolts x 2
£58.49 Bolts x 2
£203.26 Sub Total
£167.40 Labour
£370.66 Total

The service, excluding oil change was £501.30 (apparently its £910 with oil at OPC Sheffield (JCT600). Furthermore it'll be going back for new rear lights, when they arrive, to get rid of the insect mausoleum look!

Frankstar previously got these prices from Teeside:

£192 for front pads
£55.42 for shim
£51.96 for senors
£16 for bolts

Neil, got to ask the obvious question. Was the work done at an OPC?, and if so may I ask at which one?

Yes, Sheffield. If it was an error I'd say it just seems typical of their general shambolic set up.

i would be worrried, rears at 20k? thinking it should be the fronts?

Maybe his car has PTVS which would use the rear pads more?

No PTVS, so that's not it. I have zero knowledge about the balance of braking on 4WD Porsches, so clueless! I remain sceptical about the setup of these excellent machines on delivery after the original tyres only lasting 13,500 miles (It is a whole lot happier doing my local full lock hairpin since having new tyres and tracking adjusted) so maybe the brake balance was not 100% either.

I’d never even considered that a car wouldn’t be setup properly on delivery. That’s a really good point. I suspect there will just be perfunctory checks, probably by robots on the assembly line. I wonder what the official line is ( from any manufacturer).

the rears on my GTS wore out before the fronts and this seems to be common. Rear discs and pads are an easy DIY job with genuine parts from ECP or AutoDoc. See my post here viewtopic.php?f=20&t=9613&p=193397#p193397

I use standard cruise regularly for many of my common journeys which uses the rears to regulate the selected speed. My rears were down to the metal whist the fronts had 80% left.

That's the answer then, I probably never do a journey of more than a mile or two without using the ACC for some part of it. Thanks.
