Hi,
Basically a lack of demand outwith the main cities/towns, Goes away back to the days when we had 2, 3 and 4 Star leaded petrol and what were "Blended" dispensers. Always amused me as an apprentice watching a newbie been sent to look for the 3 star tank on a petrol station and of course there wasnt one! there were only two grades of petrol 2 star and 4 star below ground and those motorists that wanted three star basically got an equal mix of both hence the dispensers were called blenders. Of course back then and diffrent pricing, not many motorists had diesel cars. When we moved away from leaded petrol, petrol station onwers either converted both the 2 star and 4 star tanks to both now being unleaded or those that had a good crystal ball converted one to now also store diesel.

For these small operators many of whom have long since dissapeared they had quite simply unleaded 95 storage and diesel storage as we all know diesel became the most popular fuel in the UK for a number of years until it got its "Dirty" name.
In the bigger cities and far bigger volume sites they had the space, money and time to install additional tank for the super 98 ron fuel albeit still in smaller tank size than standard unleaded. Im afraid its all down to cost, why would a filling station operator take on the investment, construction costs and maintenance costs to put in a super unleaded tank when demand wasnt great.

There are a few forums and websites on the North Coast 500 route that list all the local filling stations in the northern part of Scotland and indicate those open 24hrs and also those that sell Super 98 Ron . Also the fuel distributers do that as well such as Gleaner Oils, so doing some research before travelling may help people plan their fuel stops.

There is a lot of discussions that go off topic. Personally I think that’s all about enjoying the forum.
However there are some Victor Meldrew’s viewing the forums, who will ‘PING’ the persons responsible. But I say caution to the wind.😂
