Apparently, Esso don't put Ethanol in their fuels and the bloke at Bamford Rose Aston Martin specialists recommends Esso above Shell. I also believe that Tesco fuels are from Esso but that may be apocryphal. I use either in the 'S' and not had any issues.

I've switched from Shell VP to Esso Super, one problem, since 26 August I've had a 50% failure rate when looking for stations with it in stock. Two from four visits just found yellow tags showing "Out of use". I'm now near Hull with 44 miles range showing and hoping to find some near Doncaster on my way home

there are similar reports of E5 super fuels being hard to find at all brands inc Shell and Esso on other car forums. Some reckon some switching from non-premium aided by haulage tanker driver shortage and most garages premium tanks being smaller than base fuels.

Last filled up at local ESSO about 2weeks ago so no personal experience yet.

I filled up with shell e10 last week to see if I could notice any difference in fuel economy. I've done just over 200 miles. On a tank of e5 I got an average of 28mpg. On the e10 its dropped to high 26ish. Ive measured it on my daily commute so pretty much the same conditions. A full tank of Vpower next up for a complete test.

My other half says she's noticed a drop in mpg in her audi as well.

So far I'm not convinced we are going to save the planet with this move

It's most likely another knee jerk decision that hasn't been thought through properly, if at all!

Correct, but see my post on page 1 of this thread for the regional exceptions.

Exactly...they never learn though!

Interesting about the recommendation to use Esso.

Problem is finding one, which for me involves a 10 mile round trip in a direction I rarely go and then I would end up paying 20p per litre more.

I only used said filling station once to put £5 worth in to enable me to get to a more reasonably priced Shell outlet.

Seems it just depends where you live. Shell "involves a 12 mile round trip in a direction I rarely go" namely, into town, Esso is marginally better on the SW of Sheffield. As far as price goes that seems totally random! I have tried the info from Petrolprices.com and also Confused.com and found both to be unreliable. The data in the in car app seems to come from Petrolprices so isnt 100% trustworthy either, once took me to a Shell garage that didnt even have a pump for super unleaded!
