Sunglasses Holder in lieu of grab handle

Had one of these in my old motor.

I swapped out the grab handle above the drivers head and fitted this in it's place.

It was great and dead handy to get your sun glasses out without taking your eyes from the road.

I want to retrofit one and will hunt around and see what I can come up with.

I have my own machine shop so I should be able to make an interface or machine new holes should what I buy does not fit.

If anyone has had any prior luck please let me know.

Wouldn't have any of my sunglasses in there without their microfibre cleaning bag else it could be £90 on new replacement polarized lenses.

It is a good idea though as they will fit there in their bag.

Today I picked up a Volvo Sunglasses holder from my local dealer

I went for charcoal as it is an excellent match to the current grab handle.

Here is a picture of the holder side by side with the handle I have removed

Now we need to cut off the lugs carefully with a sharp craft knife

Then I knocked out the little metal top hat sleeves that were in the Volvo holes (they didn't need much force to remove them).

Then I made a couple of top hat bushes to insert into the holes.

The pressed metal sleeves can now be thrown away (shown at the bottom of the picture above).

Then I offered up the holder to the roof and fastened one screw loosely into position

Then, with a little bit of twisting, you should be able to screw the final screw into position. Torque up correctly and close the screw cover caps until they click shut.

Voilà ....
