My SD is 21 months old with 25,000 kms to date. Had no problems whatsoever so far, but on a run back from Paris notices a shuddering when starting off and accelerating and also when reversing. it's a sort of shudder that feels as if it's to do with the steering but it disappears once a bit of speed has built up. It's not apparent at 130kms /hr on the motorway and otherwise the car drives OK.

Called in to Porsche Bordeaux on route home and they confirmed that it's perfectly OK to drive, but it looks like the transfer box is the cause. They indicated that they will send oil samples back to Porsche in Germany for analysis and that it could be a servo motor (assume something to do with the transfer of power between front and rear. I have seen on other forums there have been a few cases of similar issues and I do gather that if they change PDF and transfer box as well, it can be horrendously expensive!

Car is under warranty so all OK. Extended warranty here in France is €3,500 for 2 more years and first service is €910 fixed price. Oh yes.. and just to cap it all, the windscreen was cracked by a small stone so they ordered a new one whilst I was there. All ready for when it goes in to them in Sept and if they change the whole transfer box it'll be at least a week.

There have been various threads on here about transfer boxes. Same symptoms as you describe

Yes, more " common" on earlier cars (you say yours is 21 months old so that fits...)
Good luck with the repair.

Even if out of warranty I would argue that the transfer box should be expected to last at least 100,000 miles.

Servicing in France looks expensive compared to U.K. I only paid £500 inc VAT and including the brake fluid replacement.
