Possibly not in actual use, but legally it might be a different matter!

OP - if I was you, I'd just sell my own Macan here and buy a replacement one in Aus.
A fair point but I would think so long as you have a KPH display you'd be covered however I don't know for sure. As to the OP I know that import duties in Oz on new cars is astronomical and you would be paying silly money for a new Macan but I don't know about importing a used one. There was a thread on Planet 9 about the comparative costs of Caymans between UK and other countries and Oz was up with the most expensive but not as bad as Singapore or Hong Kong. Definitely worth looking into importing your UK car if not subject to the same usurious duties as a new car

Quick search

https://infrastructure.gov.au/vehicles/ ... rview.aspx

Plus from preparefor australia website

Luxury vehicle: You wish to bring in a car valued at $70,000 by Australian Customs.

Duty = 10% of 70,000 = $7,000

GST is calculated on $77,000 (value + duty) = $7,700

Total value of car subject to LCT = $70,000 (value) + $7,000 (Duty) + $7,700 (GST) = $84,700

Luxury Car Tax payable on: $84,700 (Total value) - $57,466 (Allowance) = $27,234.

Luxury Car Tax is 33% of $27,234 = $8,987.

So, your total charges are: $7,000 (Duty) + $7,700 (GST) + $8,987 (LCT) = $23,687.

Summary for Luxury Vehicle Import Fees:

Value = $70,000
Duty = $7,000
GST=$7,7000
LCT = $8,987
Total Cost to Import = $23,687

Comparison spreadsheet from a shipping company

http://www.carshipping.co.uk/AusCostCal ... Import.xls

Then there is the cost for preparing the car prior to shipping plus compliance alterations in Oz and to regas the Air Con.

Me I would sell and buy a second hand big Mitsi 4x4 if I was going to Oz to be near our family there, they are into 4x4 and UTEs

The speedometer can be changed from mph to kph from the PCM. I'm not sure if that changes the analogue dial also. I'll give it a go in the next few days and report back. If it doesn't work I'll ask an OPC. I need to find out if the warranty is still valid if I ship the car in any case.

No it doesn't. (At least not on my 2015 car, but I can't imagine that it would be different.)

Thanks for the breakdown on the luxury car import taxes Col. We had researched that. Even with import costs it's still WAY cheaper to take the car there than to buy one over there. I went onto the Aussie configurator and our spec came in at approximately AUD $140,000, which at current exchange rates is GBP £87,500. Our car cost us under GBP £60,000 on the road. Even with taxes it's a no-brainer.

The tax calculation also takes into account depreciation, which is highest in the first year, and the shipping costs can be deducted from the purchase price as part of the calculation. Still costly mind you, but all things considered I'd rather keep the car.

Have you considered what effect the fact that it isn't a proper Australian spec car will have when you eventually sell?

I had a look at the Australian and GB configurators and the tech details on standard equipment are broadly the same, although the wording is a little different in places. Both talk about ISOFIX child seat fixing points in the same way.

The only real difference is related to being "down under", as can be seen from this screenshot.
