I could have sworn that it was changeable - maybe that was on my last Boxster.

Settings can be changed. On the vehicle settings menu - Vehicle > Settings > Units > Speedometer > choose units.

Yes, in 'settings'.
Does Oz allow permanent import? Some countries only permit up to six months.

Digital speedo definitely changeable in settings as I change mine every time I go to Europe. I don't know of anyone who looks at the analogue speedo (the most pointless thing ever) so shouldn't be an issue

Possibly not in actual use, but legally it might be a different matter!
OP - if I was you, I'd just sell my own Macan here and buy a replacement one in Aus.

went to NZ last Jan/Feb and met a Macan owner, the guy told me he paid +140k $NZ for a brand new petrol S (with loads of options) which is a way more expensive than in UK, actually more expensive than my UK GTS...
so I don t know about Australia but I don t see why it would be different, worth to find out the cost for a New or used Macan before making the final decision.

If you google it, there's a good post on an ex-pat forum (albeit from 2007) where a guy posts a complete breakdown of all associated expenses and hoops you need to jump through along with his own " break-even" calculation. I think he was exporting a TT.
