Just had the assessment from OPC as follows...

We have had our wheel specialist access the wheel and their opinion is there is a problem with the lacquer. As we previously discussed this would not be covered by warranty but on this occasion we will cover the cost for you.

The whole wheel is being refurbished.

Any comments?

Cheers. M

Depends. If the lacquer is failing because of stone chips then it is probably reasonable. If it is failing because of poor prep then that’s a different thing.

Indeed. As you can see from the pic it has a creeping appearance starting with pitting at the very edge and working inwards. There’s also some discoloured patches.

Any road up, they’re doing it so fair enough. I did happen to mention that I’d be looking to change it in 10-11 months time.

All done - no charge. The wheel people reported ‘badly repaired damage/kerbing had led to pitting and delacquering’.

Were you aware of any previous damage?

No. Well not on the wheel.

During handover - actually just moments before we left - I noticed some marks low down near the offside front wing. OPC took it back in the workshop and sorted it. The ‘invisible’ residuals were dealt with by my detailer.

Coincidentally the wheel is on the same side and the issue became apparent in early February as slight pitting on, and developing from, the edge of the rim. There was also some discolouration becoming apparent - very subtle blotches further in but noticeable during a wash.

Whether the two issues are related we’ll never know but it strikes me as being too much of a coincidence to be anything other than having some connection.

Yah, I was right, what do I win?

Glad they sorted it out for you, just a shame that they didn't swap the wheel out then get the damaged wheel repaired properly, rather than a quick 'touch-up', hoping it would 'go away'.
