Now... I see them .. again will the removal give the body mor flex? And why remove them? Seems strange.

Just checked my SD, a late 2017 car. No plastic covers and just the 1 bar across the rear of the engine.

Never really thought about it before, but now I've read this......I want them!

Even though mine is a very old Sep 2015 SD I just went out and had a look! I knew the plastic bits were there but wasn't sure about the struts. Here's a pic:

Clearly mine is tucked up in the garage because I am too frightened to use it in this weather after Col Lamb's comments about all-season tyres!

Interesting. Your picture had me go look at our March 2012, 2.0 TDi Audi Q5 and you can see the strut setup is very similar?

Maybe Porsche tweaked the suspension a little over time, which needed the removal of the 'fillets' to prevent the front being too stiff (possibly understeery)?

^ Does your Macan still have the holes/threads present in the centre of the remaining strut? Apparently some of the cars in the States do according to the thread that I linked earlier. One of the forum members has retrofitted the struts and plastic covers - all the part numbers are listed in the thread.

You could swap yours from your Q5 to the Macan and do a handling test!

No, I have the full fat, un-drilled racing strut, for European markets only ;-)

No way I'm taking the Bosch to that! The Q5 wouldn't see which way the Macan went in the twisties, extra strut or not.

My Nov 17 Macan S has the single strut and no plastic covers. I hadn’t noticed before but now that I have, it does look a bit “unfinished”.

Guy wrote: Tue Mar 06, 2018 12:40 pm Thanks Semerka - of course the extra two diagonal strut braces are missing in both of those pictures.

Have you checked yours?
Our Sept 2016 Macan has the two shorter diagonal strut braces and the side plastic covers.
But we think it's only cosmetic and hence not necessary and that is why Porsche chose it as a cost saving excercise, perhaps.
Lots of owners will never open the bonnet and look. ;)

This happens a lot. I had a 135i coupe (BMW) and that did not have the extra bonnet insulation that the earlier cars had.
Apparently the chassis braces are now missing on BMW M140i that used to be fitted as standard on the earlier M135i, so people buy them as spare parts and fit them.
