Driving along this afternoon, I saw a cloud of dust ahead, from a roadside field which was being harvested. So I selected Recirculation on the heater controls. On exiting the cloud of dust, I turned Recirculation off and the heater immediately went on to the Hi setting, pumping very hot air into the car. The +/- temperature control didn't do anything to alter the Hi setting. Bathed in sweat, I pulled into the first layby, turned the engine off, then re-started - it was still on Hi. By a process of elimination, I tried lots of buttons, and the AC Max button changed the Hi setting to the Lo setting, and cold air was then being blown in. When I turned AC Max off, the system went back to my normal setting of 20 degrees. What a strange thing to happen!

Maybe you had pressed the picture of the front screen (max defrost) at the same time by accident?

Ah, that's a thought, maybe that's what I did. Too many buttons on that centre console!

First time I did a journey where I needed to demist front screen - I kept getting hazard warning lights instead :? - Buttons might look nice and tidy, but the designers should really put more effort into ergonomics

Absolutely agree. But instead they've gone for smooth, shiny touchscreens (or they've been forced to).
