As promised, here is my update.
The car went in to Portsmouth Porsche to have a new key programmed in (my wife lost hers )
It was also booked in to have the transfer box checked. They assure me it is Ackerman effect and that there is no fault. I do believe them as it would be a nice little earner if it needed a new box.
Whilst there they did a software update which took about an hour.

Good news then. Did they ask your permission to update software?
Hi Tom, yes they did. I had an extra hour to kill so they gave me a lift to Port Solent where I had some lunch and then walked back.
I haven't noticed any difference.

Thats good. Apparently its to overcome Cheat Software although some say its to replace a previous removal of cheat software. I don't believe it myself. Whats the point in removing Cheat Software that will never kick in now the car is in private hands and will not be tested? Whats the point in removing any software that lowers emissions in whatever circumstances? None whatsoever.
Is it to make it comply with previously reported standards? Perhaps. If so how? A barely noticeable drop in power that the driver might overcome by pushing the pedal harder? Perhaps.

May 17 - 19000 miles no issues as yet.
Update Car has just clocked 20000 miles serviced 3 weeks ago.
I have just started to notice a slight hesitation when setting off. it feels like the engine revs slightly. As if it's not in gear. and then it sets off. No clunking. I've only noticed it when the car is cold.
I have always had the inside rear wheel scrub when turning sharply from new. Thats just the fat tyres.
I haven't reported it yet as it is intermittent.
Can somebody tell me the classic symptoms of impending failure.
Well today my ‘lightly’ used Oct 15 SD with 4.5k miles was diagnosed with transfer box failure.
The first thing I noticed was a delay in 1st and reverse gears engaging. Then on a couple of occasions the revs momentarily increased between a 1st to 2nd gear change mainly whilst moving in slow traffic. Quick acceleration from standstill sometimes caused what felt like one of the rear wheels ‘had jumped’. For me however the best test was highlighted in this thread, put the car in off road mode and reverse on full lock.......at that point it felt like the drivetrain was about to depart the car! Reverse or forward was the same.
I have September 2015 SD and the box failed around 20K [replaced under 2 year warranty] Nottingham OPC assured me there have not been any "second" failures but if you read the forum another one in Nottingham has had a second box fitted!!
