I have a 14 month old Macan Turbo that has done 9000 miles. Today I went to start the car and after an initial burst of life from the engine it died. I went to try and start it but the same happened.

I got out, closed the car, waited a moment and then tried again. This time the engine fired but a multitude of warning messages came up including steering failure, suspension failure and stability control failure.

I drove gingerly up the street and two messages disappeared however the steering one remained.

I will be calling the dealer tomorrow, but I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this?
So when is this ‘old enough to know better’ supposed to kick in ?

Do you use it often. I used to get all sorts of warnings and apparent failures on my old Boxster when the battery was low so in the end got a trickle charger and didn't get any further issues after that. Hopefully you'll get it sorted.

I had a few warnings when I left my car unused for three months and the battery discharged, however they came up after recharging the battery with a charger. This situation is covered in the manual - for instance it tells you to clear the PSM warning my driving a short distance and putting in a few steering inputs. I had other warnings but they all cleared quite quickly.

I should have added - I too now use a trickle charger.

I drove the car for 250 miles yesterday so I would have thought that the battery had a reasonable level of charge.

I had also driven 50 miles a couple of hours earlier.

Thanks for the feedback - I will let you know what the dealer says tomorrow.

This morning I tried to open the car but the doors would not open. The fuel filler cap would open ?!?! but the doors would not. I opened the car with the manual key and the alarm sounded. I closed the car, waited and then opened the door again. No alarm this time and the engine started. The warning messages showed up and this time the engine management and steering failure stayed on.

By this time the Porsche Assist service had arrived (an AA man). He wondered if the alternator was faulty but when he put a voltmeter on the car it showed 14 volts. He left and then an hour later a guy arrived with a flatbed lorry to take it to Porsche Wolverhampton. Initially it would not start for him but then eventually did.

Having paid £72k for a car I expected to take nice photographs of it in scenic settings, not this.

The car has a now been with the OPC for 3 days. Their feedback so far is that they are baffled by the error messages. Their usual rectification procedure has not worked so they are now in contact with Porsche !

OPC remains bemused and so far no response from Germany.
By the way, did I say that just to add to the misery, someone kindly gave my passenger door two dings the day before the electrical chaos started.

That’s been a while now.....have you spoken to Porsche customer services? They may apply at bit more pressure at a higher level.

Your battery doesn't seem to be feeding your starter. At a guess you'd think they would be focusing on the starter motor, the starter solenoid and the relays. Alternatively, there has been some feedback on other fora about immobilisers having an effect.

Either way, your start up systems aren't getting the voltage from the battery. If Porsche can't immediately troubleshoot all that, I would be looking immediately at indies, taking the cost on the chin and getting Porsche to reimburse.

Hope they have made sure that the battery compartment hasn’t been filling with water? My OPC told me about a couple that have suffered this fate and for it to have badly affected the electrics including spurious messages......
