Because of the bump and puncture Kitty is in my OPC and they phoned today to discuss, having emailed the health check figures. Interesting to say the least.
The top one is 21 Sept 18 @ 21260
The middle is 18 Feb 19 @ 25341
The bottom was done today @ 26140
Seems my tyres have at different times sprouted rubber then been on a crash diet with rears loosing about a mill in about 800 miles. Some parallax I can understand but an entire millimetre!
The fronts have to be replaced cos of the puncture. Thinks they may be trying a little too hard to sell me a pair of rears too!
Also the brake pads have miraculously grown!

The unreliability of those figures is somewhat concerning!
Maybe checking tyre tread depth, and brake wear, is not as easy/simple as it should be?

And how on earth can a tyre perish in 37 months in a moderate climate? And within a few weeks of being given the all-clear without caveats.Wing Commander wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 7:55 pm The unreliability of those figures is somewhat concerning!

^^^ Very odd. The cynic might say they’re simply trying to boost their parts sales, at ‘Porsche OPC’ prices, including ‘Porsche OPC’ labour charges.

Re the perished tyres. I queried this today and was told that they’re really only good for about 3 years from manufacture, and was shown the light cracking. Each tyres is date stamped and mine showed a Nov 15 date.
Not a red flag issue but one to be aware of.

Blimey! Not good news for those low mileage Porsche drivers!
Saw a GT4 for sale recently. 3 years old. Only done 1,129 miles! Criminal!
And it’ll be needing new tyres too, based on the above!

"Tyre experts Michelin recommend that, after five years or more on your vehicle tyres should be inspected at least once a year by a professional. Then, if they're still on your car ten years after they were manufactured then they should be replaced anyway, as a precaution."Dandock wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2019 8:13 pm Re the perished tyres. 1.6mm is the legal limit for tread depth over 3/4 of the tread width. Porsche recommend a minimum of 3mm.
In my experience, tyres on high performance cars and SUVs should be replaced at no more than 6 years from the date of tyre manufacture if you want peace of mind.
The tyre's manufacturing date can be determined by the mark in the tyre's sidewall. e.g. 1018 = week 10 of 2018.
(If tyres are printed with only a 3-digit number, it means they were manufactured before 2000 and should be replaced asap.)
