Hey all,

So I'm a newbie to Macan Onwership having recently picked up a 2014 Macan S Diesel. Love the car but there is one thing that's getting to me a bit. When starting the car I get a low volume whirring noise coming from the right hand side of the dashboard to the right of the dials. Doesn't matter if the car is hot, starting from cold and doesn't seen to affect driving or mechanics.......but Local Porsche specialist didn't know what it was so thought I'd see if anyone on here has had the same thing and if you have any idea what it could be?

Thanks for any ideas!

Good option but that noise comes from the middle and underneath the dash and from the rear. This noise is right between the dials and the drivers door on the top of the dashboard....so far I've tested handbrake, turning the screen off, turning all lights off, interior lights....it also happens when the car is put in ignition without starting the car almost like it's priming something....on my old Merc this was a hydraulic pump for the breaks but Porsche doesn't seem to suggest there is one of these in the dash.....

It might just be the heater/vent flaps waking up. They do have a mind of their own and won’t allow a full blast of air through until they are fully open; it might just be a noisy servo.

Heater / vent flaps was what I thought as well.

There are quite a few "normal" noises on the Macan.

Love the fact there are 'normal' noises on the Macan! :-) What other normal noises should i be preparing myself for?

So if it's a noisy servo does anyone know if it's a simple fix? It's not that it's a bad noise or it's affecting driving it's just so annoying really.......thanks for the advice on this.

Maybe you just need to get used to it. Mine makes lots of 'waking up' noises, things like the PCM and other electronics coming to life, vents opening, fans starting up, etc, etc, all of which are normal.

As a test, and just a thought if you have 15 mins to spare, when you have driven the car next time, turn it off and remove the key as usual but stay sat in the car.
You will hear many noises as the various systems shut down, clock winds down, PCM turns off and the heater vents close.
If these are the same noises you hear on start up then your query is resolved👍
(If not........we’ll have to come up with something else 😂)
