Has anyone bought new caliper bolts?

We really are being screwed over by OPC and it's an easy fit. Will need new caliper bolts as they are single use stretch bolts and would usually fit new wear sensors but the old ones are OK. It is incredible how they can charge close to a grand.
Have you tried a few heavy applications of the brakes from speed to clean the discs and deglaze the pads? Worth a try before going to the trouble and expense of changing discs. Also would be an idea to check the discs runout before assuming they are warped and are causing the problem.

thanks but yes I have tried all of that. Pads were new a 1000 miles or so and were OK for a while but to be honest I should really have changed the discs when I changed pads. Just to make of us gringe I bought the pads from OPC Edinburgh and even with discount they were close to £200. When I opened the Porsche branded box it was a set of Textars with no Porsche markings so you can imagine how we are so getting ripped off when you can buy genuine Textar pads for just £77

I'll be interested to hear what the runout is and the effect of changing the discs, also any issues during fitting. Perhaps you could let us know how it goes?

Hi,

My brake pad warning lights just came on today for first time at 31k miles.

I hear that I could go on for another 2000miles before actually changing them on a forum. Is this correct?

I have just renewed my warranty - if I take it to a Porsche specialise to change the pad and disc instead a OPC - would it affect my warranty?

Certainly good for another 1000 dependant on your driving style. Indy okay as long as all the parts are genuine Porsche.

I've got extended warranty and I had my discs and pads changed all round at my local garage during the first lockdown as it was impossible to get booked in at Hatfield OPC. I've recently had a service with them and I was quite upfront about the brakes to them. They were not concerned at all, their attitude was that they were just consumables and it wouldn't affect the warranty. I've actually had some warranty work done since. The only thing I was careful of was to make sure the parts were OEM. They're Brembo but Porsche branded for mine, IIRC.

You guys need to get friendly with your OPC parts department, they'll do you some good discounts and you know it's coming with the correct bolts, sensors, shims etc.

I just got parts for the rear brake pads on my Macan S D last week, £98 and it came with 2 sensors, shims and bolts. When I did the front brakes the other year I think it was £420 for discs/pads.

Greddyuk - you'll need to check to see if it is the front or rears that have caused the warning light to come on. The assumption will be that it is the fronts but on mine it was the rear sensor that caused the warning light and the rears were more worn than the fronts. That said I replaced both fronts and rear discs and pads as the front were getting low but not such as to cause the warning light to come on. If I were you I'd replace all discs and pads especially on a Turbo and at that mileage. Brembo discs and Textar (OEM) pads easily available from Autodoc and much cheaper than OPC. I've posted on here how to do the rears as there is a myth that you need to hook the car up to a computer to retract parking brake which is nonsense.

Thanks for the advise. I had the car serviced last month and extended my warranty at Brooklands. They actually told me the front ones were 90% down and will need changing - asked me if I wanted it changed with the disc as the disc had a lip. The back one were only 50% down and ok. I was also told that they found a slight oil leak aswell and I was to book in the car to amend the oil leak - this was under warranty so they advised me to change the pad and disc and fix the leak. I delayed them and said I will wait for the lights to come on before I will change them. They quoted me around £1400 for the front pads and disc only… I just thought that was steep. So am I right that I should buy the pads and disc myself and get a local garage to change them for me? I’m just not so confident changing them myself as I’m not so savvy in doing cars.
