Interesting article. It looks like it is highly unlikely that you can over-rev a PDK, but may be possible in certain circumstances if really pushing it. Or maybe the parallel with the tiptronic gearbox they mention is not valid.

You can get pretty close.

At the PEC I really thrashed the Turbo and I deliberately pulled the down paddle to max out the revs, it went into the red and stayed there, the engine did not like it but I got no warnings.

Interesting for those who have sessions there booked to try it, in auto mode pulling the gears down when you should not to see what happens, then do it again but in full manual mode of the gear selector.

I hope you aren't suggesting that someone tries to break one of their cars!

Well I did honestly try, did a bit of off roading on some of the handling circuit bends when it ran wide and I kept the boot in.

Surprizing how late you can brake on the acceleration tracks if the car has ceramic brakes.

It's an easy test to do. Try down shifting when the revs are already at the red line. It won't let you do it. Simples.
Even in Sport+ mode.
Used to have 2016 Macan Turbo PHCKCL70
Previously a 2014 Macan Turbo.

AFAIK the ceramic brakes don't stop the car any quicker but are less prone to fade, last longer and weigh a lot less. The performance of the standard brakes are phenomenally impressive from my experience yesterday

Oh and I had standard on one and ceramic on another and you absolutely could not tell the difference

It could be that some folks go for the PCCB option for the yellow calipers, because they leave less brake dust on the wheels, or for the 'have to have the best' factor...Wing Commander2017-04-13 22:07:03

I had ceramics on my Boxster GTS after trying both on the PEC, the reason for me I found that you could feather the brakes more on ceramics and of course there is no brake dust and they are larger than normal brakes so fill the wheels better.
I was going to spec ceramics on the Turbo that is on order but even the OPC said they are not required and the only real benefit is no brake dust.

standard brakes stop me 60mph to 0 in 3 seconds good enough for me, never noticed any fading.
