Banging whilst on full lock
My car has always suffered from sideways slip when accelerating forwards out of side roads but ---- recently when reversing or turning in to parking spaces the slip is so great that its like a banging coming through the floor. Does this sound like its soley down to colder tyres and harder rubber or a fault?

Have you reported it to the OPC? Maybe show them the issue.
Just lately I have suffered the Ackerman (?) effect. This is common to Porsche sports cars (and other brands probably) in the colder months. It was a tad alarming when I first experienced it in a Boxster, or might have been the 911. Now getting it in the Panamera too.

What's the Ackerman effect (not heard that term before)?

It should actually be called the 'lack of Ackermann effect' I think. In 1818 Rudolph Ackermann solved the problem of four-wheel cart steering wheels scrubbing when turning because the two steering wheels need to turn at different speeds aa they are following different radii during the turn. His steering linkage turned the two wheels different amounts to compensate. It's the same reason that a differential is needed on an axle with power being transmitted to both wheels. You get the same scrubbing effect with mechanical diff locks.
Porsche have designed their steering for performance and feel at speed and have chosen not to eliminate the scrubbing on full lock on the sports cars.
If it's happening to such a degree on the Macan I'd get it checked as, unless it's a new car with low miles, it may be a precursor to transfer box failure.

What Nick said.
Plus, if you Google 'Ackermann Effect Porsche' you'll find lots on it.

I too got this for the first time this morning!
Reversing out of a parking space on full r/h lock I thought I’d driven over a coke can or something! A real “ bang! as per the thread title.
Never experienced this in 10 months of SD ownership and 14 months of GTS ownership.
Only ever experienced the “ scrubbing” effect previously.
But, I hardly ever manoeuvre on full lock if I can avoid it and I was reversing too. Maybe a combination of this and the first (or second) really frosty morning (cold rubber) might explain.

Manoeuvring on full lock (at very low speed) should not do any harm to the car should it, Paul? I pretty much do this via a three point turn every time I drive away from home.
P.S. Good to see the 'old school' avatar back.
