13,000 miles into Macan GTS ownership and mostly trouble free, but recently I’ve noticed a knocking at idle coming from the passenger side of the engine. It sounds a bit like an old Ford Escort with a knackered bottom end!

It’s going into the OPC on the 2nd January, but their initial assessment suggested it could be a noisy fuel pump which they tried to say is normal! I’m pretty sure this noise has developed which suggests something is worsening, but I’d be interested if any other GTS or Petrol owners have a similar thing?

Could it be a fill of dodgy fuel? Mine was always sweet as a nut at idle.

Sounds like it is probably one of the ancillary items as opposed to the engine itself

My Sept ‘16 GTS has done 14000 miles and has no such noise at idle.

What I do have is a soft “ sigh” at idle and low speed manoeuvres which sound a bit PAS related.

Morning

Literally I’m going out of the door now to OPC Leeds to drop my petrol S off for 3 days for a very similar noise issue from the engine bay at idle. My sound is more like a ‘wallowing‘ or like the sound made if you got a sheet of hardboard and moved it backwards and forwards to make a sound.

I went to the OPC a couple of weeks ago and one of the senior technicians listened in the cabin and could hear the noise then said yeah I’ve heard that before on other macans. Interestingly if I push the sport button which slightly higher the revs I don’t hear the noise. Odd..

Anyway I will report back on Wednesday on pick up of my car.

Same here, no probs with the engine. However, I do have the "sigh" at low speed. Definitely PAS-related as it only happens when I turn the steering wheel at low speeds. It is intermittent , it can go weeks without it happening, so hasn't bothered me, overly. I will see if it occurs more often in cold weather.

I thought the same when they suggested it could be the fuel pump, but I use V Power 99% of the time, and it’s been through a good few tanks since the noise started so if it was fuel it’s done something permanent.

Hope they sort it for you. I’d be interested in your diagnosis. I don’t think that describes my sound, but mine definitely goes away with a small amount of revs - I’ll try putting it in sport or sport+ and see what that does.

I had the intermittent "sigh" when turning the wheel at low speeds, and I've seen it reported in this forum by others. OPC replaced part of the steering column a couple of months ago, and that has completely solved the problem.
