(here I go Simon ....)
When asked, very few on here would, on a like for like basis, “prefer” to buy a used demo / courtesy / ex PEC car (not to mention taxis Ric) because they will have been “abused” from new.
Yet, just as many are happy to ignore the recommendations of the blokes wot built the car, preferring to create their very own “not treated properly when new” cars.......
I even saw a thread earlier, with no particular judgement given, from someone who had tested out the launch control a few times on their new car.....

Old-fashion rules, use it don’t use it:
First 1000 miles try not to rev under continuous load over 3000 rpm
First 2000 miles try not to rev continuously under load over 4000 rpm
First 3000 miles do not race/compete/launch the vehicle
Above 3000 miles, let the engine rev higher, when at normal operating conditions... it will clear the cob-webs out of the computer-boxes
Also, do not labour the engine in 6-7 gear up the hill below 2000 rpm!
It is better for the entire power train to gear-down and let it rev a little, within reason.
Please remember that 90% of vehicle wear and tear is when the engine/components are cold! Once the vehicle is at a normal operating temperature, the vehicle is better protected and lubed.
Great points already made about brakes and tyres.

I do try not to get drawn in to yet another debate about running in, but when I see some particularly daft remark I can't help myself.
You, and others, have already made some good comments, eg read the manual, don't listen to salespeople who next week may be selling toilet rolls somewhere, keep the engine and transmission lightly loaded at first but increase it gradually over time, remember that brakes and tyres need running in too.

The whole running in debate has been done to death and both WingCo and Nick have very good points. As an instructor at Silverstone PEC told me “once the car is up to temperature it’s good for whatever you want to throw at it”. I think caution in the first 2,000 miles is definitely wise but also not thrashing it until warm thereafter is well worth keeping in mind.
