All three of my Porsches have drunk 1 litre of oil in the first 10k miles and none thereafter. Nick, apologies if I misunderstood your comment

These are all minor differences in viscosity rating. In practicality I'd say they can be interchanged, particularly in the less extreme temperatures of a UK climate, so at least it widens the choice of lubricant, provided it is Mobil 1. I suspect the fact that different specifications appear on labels or in handbooks may be due to commercial decisions, availability or a lack of flexibility in some technical calculations. Quite often engine manufacturers will produce a chart showing considerable overlap between viscosity ranges and temperature applications.

^^^ From Terry’s experience above, it does also sound as if the confusing/conflicting advice/instructions may be to help to increase profit for Porsche on oil change transactions. :(
