New to Porsche ownership!
I had purchased 5l of Mobil 1 0W-40 as that is what the Mobil website recommended for the 20k service of my March 2018 Macan 2.0 which I purchased in February this year.
I also checked Opie oils who also had 0W-40 as the ideal oil.
Today when I went for the service I was told i had purchased the wrong oil and they couldn't use it, so I had to go with their 0W-30 (which costs £102.50 +VAT on the invoice). Interestingly when I booked and said i would supply the oil they reduce the bill by only £50.
I asked the service person where the info on oil is to be found as i couldn't find any info in the manual or service book, she couldn't find it on the Porsche system, just a part number!
it does seem confusing!

Is there a sticker in your engine bay specifying the appropriate oil type? This takes precedence over anything else.terrycufc wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2019 5:59 pm New to Porsche ownership!

The sticker under my bonnet (Macan S) says 'use only SAE 0W-30 & Porsche C30. On the Castrol web site the Castrol Edge 5W-30 is also described as Porsche C30; the Castrol Edge 0W-30 is NOT described as Porsche C30.
I am waiting a response from Castrol / Porsche

I'm assuming this is for new cars since the model refresh and there must be a reason for it but it is confusing. FWIW just picked my 911 up from a service yesterday and the oil they supplied was Mobil 1 0W-40 (same as the Macan GTS drank) so it looks like there has been a change with the newer engines

the change to the C spec oil requirement came with the introduction of petrol particle filtersFairynuff wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2019 1:51 pm The sticker under my bonnet (Macan S) says 'use only SAE 0W-30 & Porsche C30. Yes I think that is grammatically correct but happy to be corrected. I could have said my GTS had drunk or my GTS used to drink but, in the context of the sentence I wrote, I think drank is grammatically correct.Nuclear Nick wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2019 5:12 pmYou don't really mean 'drank' do you?VanB wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2019 3:10 pm I'm assuming this is for new cars since the model refresh and there must be a reason for it but it is confusing. ^^^ I might be wrong, but I think that Nick was questioning whether your GTS was actually drinking/consuming oil, as opposed to simply having oil within the engine for lubrication purposes, without necessarily much ‘consumption’ or ‘drinking’.
