Appreciate this relates to my 991.2 Carrera but didn’t want to stick it in the off topic section as it is a technical query.

Driving up a slight incline today and I got a warning message telling me my oil level was too high. The car is practically one year old and I’ve been nowhere near the oil filler cap.
At first I thought it was telling me it was empty as the puddle in the bottom looks that way, but after I parked the car up and restarted I could see the level was fine and back to green.

I’ll have to keep my eye on this. Last thing I need is an engine issue, albeit a potential sender unit issue, right near my visit to Litchfield.

Just got a brake light failure warning message flash up, checked it out all working fine. think that sometimes the warning systems are super sensitive. There’s no way your oil level has increased in the year probably sloshed up around the sender 👍

I would check it out personally as rising oil levels could mean a coolant leak into the engine. It’s possible it was the gradient you were on but possibly not. Could be be a faulty sensor which would be covered under warranty but a coolant leak would need some serious work from Porsche and you would need it doing before taking the car to Litchfield!

Take the oil cap off and look for any milkiness in the oil.

Let us know how you get on. My GTS used about 300ml in the first 20k miles and previous Porsche’s have done similar but none thereafter.

Fingers crossed it’s nothing to worry about.

Given the greater volativity of petrol it probably doesn't apply here but with diesel engines a faulty injector could result in unburnt fuel passing the piston rings and ending up in the sump. The end result was "fuel dilution" of the oil and a rise in level in the sump.

Unfortunately with car engines there is no easy way to take oil samples and test for contaminents.

Took the cap off and the inside was clean. Stuck my finger down into the neck of the filler tube & ran it around and nothing. Not even any oily residue.
Very strange.
Cars behaved fine since so I might write this one off as a gremlin.
I will be keeping my eye on it though.

Sounds like, at worst, a faulty sensor then which is good news [emoji106]
