I like the Porsche SatNav - but as of today, Google Maps is available on CarPlay for those who want to use it. I got the update this morning.
Waze expected in a couple of weeks.

First impressions with Google Maps in CarPlay:
- Voice control doesn't work - it asked for permission to use microphone, and I gave it, but it never worked beyond that. Didn't have time to "switch it off and back on again"
- Display of road names is weird - skewed, and can be very small. They haven't figured out how to reduce clutter on the display. Or maybe they just don't care. Minor point.
- When you enable satellite view, it really shows how crap PCM nav is. It's almost instant and really crisp.
- The voice guidance has a bit more information... perhaps a bit too much. But I guess you can get used to that.
- You can have Apple navigation and Google navigation at the same time
- Google nav didn't show speed limits, but Apple did. On the same roads/routes.

Thanks Goron!
Agree, the satellite view is better on Google Maps in Car Play.
But the zooming out / zooming in is not as easy. And the Google lady is bit snappy and shouts the instructions, haha!
But it's the more reliable navigation, in our experience so far (provided there is data connection).

What I half noticed yesterday and noticed again from the screenshots, is that google maps doesn’t always know which way the car is facing.
It should be 90° to the right on the arrived pic above, as I’d just right right into a parking space.
I think it’s just a bit slow at doing it, but Apple maps is always accurate. Maybe it uses the compass or takes fewer samples of movement to figure it out.

Cheers Adrian for the info.
Out and about yesterday I updated Google maps on my iPhone and no Google in Car Play resulted.
At home I updated to my iPhone to IOS 12 and updated a mass of Apps.
Tried it today and there was Google maps, a bit odd of a display but hey its another GPS so whats not to like.
I did notice that there was a lot of red traffic queues showing on the way home but zero holdups anywhere, better to expect worst than actuals I suppose.

Just spotted the Waze update.
I’ve not got much experience of Waze though.
